In early 2000s, the market began to change—and Cyberdigm was at the center of such transformation. Founded from POSTECH lab, Cyberdigm developed a Korean-made EDMS capable of competing with global products. By 2003, it had surpassed Documentum to become the market leader with a 25% market share. As more domestic vendors entered the market, Korean solutions eventually accounted for nearly 70% of the market, driven by intuitive usability and strong support for web-based environments. Despite its success, EDMS still had one critical limitation: document registration still heavily depended on employees.

The Shift to Digital Documents
For years, the insurance industry relied heavily on paper. Visit by a single customer could generate stacks of contracts, claims, medical records and consent forms, which eventually got boxed up and shipped from branches to headquarters.
The shift began with imaging systems—large-scale document digitization. Documents were scanned immediately, automatically indexed using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and made available for real-time access across the organization. Tasks that once took days to transport can now be retrieved instantly. Many large financial institutions even established dedicated scanning centers to digitize documents from branches nationwide.

Over time, these platforms underwent a series of mergers and acquisitions, eventually integrating into a single company.

Eliminating Options of Local Storage
The breakthrough came from Korea. POSCO Everland reached a conclusion of “Don't rely on employees, Prevent documents being remained at local PCs” POSCO first came up with a temporary local storage before full transition into central-server system.
By combining EDMS with PC storage control, this approach created a uniquely Korean category known as Document Centralization. Following POSCO's enterprise-wide deployment in 2008, adoption quickly spread across major Korean companies.
Although global ECM platforms initially led large-scale projects, Korean vendors gradually took the lead with stronger security capabilities and solutions tailored to domestic business environments.
Growing security regulations and repeated data leakage incidents further accelerated adoption across both the public and private sectors.
Document centralization transformed documents from individual into corporate assets, ensuring that they firmly remained within organizations even after employees left.
